is made either of:
1. Pine Soot - from burning pine wood
2. Lampblack - from burning vegetable oil. The soot or oil is blended
and mixed with a kind of glue. The mixture is compressed, set in
a mold, and dried into either stick or cake form. The ink stick
is then embossed with chiese inscriptions and/ or decorations, polished,
and sometimes gilded.

Authentic
rice paper is made from wood pulp and the fibrous parts of certain
bushes and plants. The most common natural fibers used are mulberry,
bamboo, hemp, and sandalwood; less common ones are rice stalks,
corn stalks, cotton, flax, reeds, and moss.
